Township of Kawkawlin Fireworks Policy

 

Purpose

 

To establish minimum standard for pyrotechnic displays within the jurisdiction of the General Law Township of Kawkawlin, including but not limited to permit fees for such displays.

 

Procedures

 

Any person intending to possess, discharge or cause to be discharged any Class 1.3 or Class B fireworks as described by MCLA 750.243a of Michigan PA 328, as amended, must meet all requirements of Michigan PA 328 and this policy. The following is the minimum that a person or corporation must meet prior to the issuance of a permit by the Township Board.

 

        A.  Complete the application for a permit required by the Township Clerk.

B.  Pay the permit fee of $50.00 established and adopted by the Township Board of Trustees on       June 8, 2009.

C.  Submit a scale drawing of the site, including but not limited to surrounding buildings, the display site as described by NFPA 1123, the spectator viewing area and the parking areas, to the Township Clerk

D.  Provide proof of one of the following:

        1.  Be licensed as a pyrotechnic operator by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Fire arms and Explosives.

        2.  Show proof that a pyrotechnic operator licensed by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been contracted to conduct the show.

E.  Applicants must show proof of training and qualifications as required by the Township Board.

F.   Provide proof of insurance for the amount of $500,000.00 as required by the Township Board.

G.  Demonstrate knowledge of the recommended safety requirements outline in the NFPA 1123, 1124 and 1126.

H.  The Township Fire Chief or his representative shall conduct a site inspection and make recommendations to the Board based on his/her observations.

I.    Once the applicant has met all of the above stated requirements, the Township Board of Trustees will approve the permit application.

 

Applications for Firework permit can be obtained at the Townships Clerk's Office.

 

Adoption of this policy rescinds all previous fireworks policies,
